Barca beats Manchester Utd in European Champion’s League Final

After a remarkable 90 mins FC Barcelona is the new European Champion.

Barcelona wins the final 2:0 after an outstanding game. Manchester Utd could not develop their game after a stronger Barcelona played a fantastic attacking game.

Manchester entered the game as a slight favourite after an excellent performance throughout the tournament.

As expected they commenced the match full of confidence. Man Utd has had a strong start to the match with several serious chances in the first 10 mins. Then after a stunning run by Eto’o and Messi, Eto’o was able to put the first goal of the night in. Afterwards the Catalans were able to dominate the game.

The second half saw a second goal by a header by Messi. This sealed the result.

Manchester was attempting to stem the tide, but was not able to find their previous form. Barca was too strong with their characteristic passing game. ‘A ball is there to be passed’ is the motto of the proud Catalonians from the North of Spain. Today they showed this motto very successfully.

Barca created many opportunities with numerous passes, many one-touch and diagonal passes. They were able to force their game onto their opponents. Great performances so far by Eto’o, Messi, Xavi, Puyol and Iniesta.

This is the third time that Barca wins European Champion’s League. Long live Barcelona, long live a passionate, attacking football!

Sisters of Mercy Video

Just a short video by the Sisters of Mercy that I have found on YouTube. I love this song from the 80’s. Don’t know if you can relate to this but I love it. Leave a note with your thoughts. Here are the lyrics to the song, which is partly sung in German…

In a sea of faces, in a sea of doubt
In this cruel place your voice above the maelstrom
In the wake of this ship of fools I’m falling further down
If you can see me, Marian, reach out and take me home…..
Marian I think I’m drowning
This sea is killing me

I hear you calling Marian
Across the water, across the wave
I hear you calling Marian
Can you hear me calling you to
Save me, save me, save me from the

Marian, there’s a weight above me
And the pressure is all too strong
To breathe deep
Breathe long and hard
To take the water down and go to sleep
To sink still further
Beneath the fatal wave

Was ich kann und was ich konnte (What I can do and what I could do)
Weiß ich gar nicht mehr (I just don’t know anymore)
Gib mir wieder etwas schönes (Give me something beautiful again)
Zieh mich aus dem Meer (Drag me from the sea)
Ich hör’ dich rufen, Marian (I hear you calling Marian)
Kannst du mich schreien hören? (Can you hear me calling?)
Ich bin hier allein (I am here alone)
Ich hör’ dich rufen, Marian (I hear you calling Marian)
Ohne deine Hilfe verliere ich mich in diesem Ort (Without your help I am lost in this place)

CHORUS (repeat Marian til end)

How Is This For Funky?

When researching music and looking through feedback for a previous post <Vote For Your Favourite Seductive Song> I stumbled over this jewel of a late 70s funky number: Shame by Evelyn King aka Evelyn Champagne King.

evelyn-king-smooth-talkThere are some seriously good tracks to come by in the late 70s, but every now and then you know that you have heard something special. This is one of the best tracks I have heard in a long time.

Evelyn King is very natural in her performance, her voice is crisp and sensual and the beat is funky and with a great guitarre tune to accompany it. Click below to hear it for yourself.

Life is full of surprises and I have just learnt that Shame is also on the soundtrack of the Rock City game Vice City (which is part of the Grand Theft Auto series). If you enjoy your late 70s and early 80s Soul / Funk, then you should check this hot site out:

Your comments and feedback are as always welcome!

Subvertising and Culture Jamming

Posted in Art, Life with tags , , , on November 18, 2008 by Writerful

Subvertising is a composition of the words ‘subvert’ and ‘advertising’. The main aim of subvertising, also referred to as culture jamming, is an attempt at sabotaging advertising / political campaigns, the encroachment of multi national corporations on everyday life, and attacking other high profile targets.

As distinct from graffiti subvertising is the practice of lampooning or satirizing corporate and political advertisements in order to make a statement or to subvert its intended message. This can take the form of a completely new image being overlayed or an alteration to the existing image. Subvertisements are also referred to as meme hacks and can be aligned with the other social hacking or culture jamming sub cultures.

Subvertisements by their nature incorporate certain elements of graffiti culture by use of a messages sprayed onto an advertisement or more complex paste ups which can change the advertisements meaning and elicit a completely different emotional response from that intended. The justification by those responsible for this type of culture hacking is that they do not give their permission to have their senses bombarded on a daily basis by corporate advertisements, so it is their way of reclaiming their personal power and public space.

Subvertising can be done in such a subtle way that it ‘flies under the radar’ and thus escapes the conscious filtering mechanism leading to unexpected epiphanies or the exposure of the subtle form of brainwashing and subliminal techniques very often used in adverts. Many people are not aware that many well known household brands are using ancient sacred symbolism in their logos which have a powerful effect on our sub conscious mind. Culture hacking or jamming by its very nature aims at addressing this deliberate form of exploitation and control by corporate and political powers.
